What Wix is
Wix lets you create a site with AI by describing what you want, or by starting from one of more than 2,000 templates, then customise anything by hand in a drag-and-drop editor or with Aria, its built-in AI agent. Wix calls this hybrid creation: you can describe a component or section and have it generated, and adjust any detail manually.
Around the editor sits a large set of business tools: payments, online stores, scheduling and services, marketing suites, CRM and analytics, available by plan. Wix Studio is a separate platform for agencies and professional designers, with a responsive canvas, no-code animation presets for scroll, loop, click and hover, custom CSS, and developer tools.
What Laarpi is
Laarpi is a coding agent for websites. You describe the site, and it asks only the questions that change the result, as cards in the chat with concrete options: palette swatches, font specimens, two genuinely different structures. Then it writes the plan, covering the concept, palette, type, sections and motion, which you can edit line by line.
It builds the site as real code, live, then checks its own work with screenshots at desktop and phone sizes, a layout check at six widths, and a separate art-director review that scores the site on eight things. Design: templates, or nothing to start from
Wix gives you a fast start. A generated site or a template has the structure of a working business site from the first minute, and that is genuinely useful when you need to be online this week.
The trade-off of any template is that it shares its bones with every other site that started from it. Change the photos and the colours, and the structure still gives it away.
Laarpi has no templates. The agent develops several concepts privately and keeps the strongest, chooses type for the idea, sets a palette at readable contrast, and gives each viewport one focal point. Motion and real-time 3D
Wix offers animation presets in its editors. Wix Studio adds no-code animation with presets for scroll, loop, click and hover, plus custom CSS, and its own showcase features advanced interactions, 3D scenes and immersive scroll built on the platform. If you have a Wix Studio designer, a lot is possible.
Laarpi writes motion and 3D for each concept. Every movement answers a scroll, a click or the cursor, with one consistent grammar rather than a fade-up on everything. When the idea calls for 3D, the agent writes a three.js scene for it, lights it with open-source HDR environments, and uses real open-source models when the subject is a real thing. Owning your site
Wix is clear about this. Its help center says a Wix site needs to be hosted on Wix to work, because it uses Wix's technology and services, and you cannot move it to another host. You can transfer a domain away and export CMS collections as CSV files.
A Laarpi site is a folder of plain files: semantic HTML with all the copy in the page, CSS and JavaScript modules, with libraries loaded from a pinned import map. You can read and change the code beside the preview on every plan. Downloading the whole site is planned and not available yet, so today a Laarpi site is hosted by Laarpi.
Business tools and payments
Here Wix is broader, and it is worth being specific.
Wix includes built-in payments from its Core plan upward, ecommerce at basic, standard or advanced level depending on plan, scheduling and services, marketing suites, collaborators, and storage from 2 GB to unlimited. For a salon, a studio with classes, or a shop with stock, those tools run the business.
Laarpi wires a backend into the site, on accounts you own:
- Supabase for sign-in, member areas, forms that save, and the tables your site needs, with row-level security on.
- Polar for products, checkout links and a customer portal. Polar is built for software and digital goods, such as memberships, downloads and subscriptions, rather than physical stock.

Wix hosts every site. Premium plans connect a custom domain, and annual plans include a free domain for the first year.

- You sell physical products. Wix stores handle catalogues, inventory and shipping. Polar, which Laarpi uses, is designed for digital goods.
- You want marketing in the same place. Email campaigns, a CRM and analytics sit beside the editor.

Where Laarpi is the better choice
